老虎賽揚強投韋蘭德(Justin Verlander)6日先發戰藍鳥，僅撐5局被敲2轟，狂失7分吞下本季第2敗；自6月中旬傷癒復出後，至今仍一勝難求。

季初春訓因三頭肌拉傷，韋蘭德開季就待在傷兵名單靜養，直到上個月14日才重返投手丘；此役是他傷癒後第4次出賽，面對藍鳥欲尋求本季首勝，無奈在五局上慘遭對手無情砲轟，包括巴蒂斯塔(Jose Bautista)的2分砲、以及史莫克(Justin Smoak)陽春全壘打，單局被敲5支安打外加1次保送，狂失6分。最終老虎也無力追趕，5比10輸球。

韋蘭德先發僅撐5局，被敲出7支安打包括2發全壘打，掉7分皆是自責失分，送出5次三振2次保送，苦吞本季第2敗，他賽後受訪時表示：「你可以用2種方式來看這場比賽；單看第五局的表現，你會認為這是場悲劇；你也可以看整體的表現，用積極的態度。我是比較正面的人，今日投球內容以及與打者的對決，我認為表現還不錯。」

儘管韋蘭德認為自己表現尚可，但就數據來看，自從2011年拿下美聯賽揚獎以及年度MVP之後，近幾年狀態逐漸下滑，尤其本季傷癒復出後，出賽4場就被敲出6發全壘打，戰績0勝2敗，防禦率高達6.75，仍未恢復昔日強投身手。

藍鳥全場敲出12支安打，雖只比對手多1支，但靠著得點圈14支6的高效率演出，順利拿下勝利終止3連敗，避免系列賽遭橫掃；目前戰績43勝41敗，在美聯東區僅勝過爐主紅襪。
